Develop an eye for it

I shouldn’t be surprised she has one.

Even as a tiny girl she noticed details I missed. A change of a billboard. The color of a cousin’s dress. The exact directions to church.

So it’s no wonder now that she has it:
a photographer’s eye.

She sees things.at_dusk

Last Saturday, Jenna shot a gorgeous set of pictures of Morgan in her wedding dress.

About thirty minutes into the shoot, Jenna looked Morgan in the eye and said, “Sissy, you are so pretty.”

She had been looking for the beauty. To capture. To share.

First, you have to see it.
Then, you can capture it to help others see it too.

Good photographers do whatever it takes to get the shot.photo_in_road

Can you, too?
Do whatever it takes to get the shot?

God already has glory. You don’t create it. You just find it.
When you look for it, you see it.
Then you can tell others about it. You live by its light.

If you want to reflect God, gaze on him.
Outright stare. (He won’t consider you rude.)

Develop an eye for spotting his glory.
You’ll be transformed by it.

And we all, with unveiled face,
beholding the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image
from one degree of glory to another....
2 Corinthians 3:18

"He will not consider you rude."

Perhaps we turn our gaze away to break the intimacy. It's too much for us, isn't it. The longer we look, the deeper into himself he takes us, but part of us doesn't want us to be one with him, so we clear our throat to clear the tension, and look away.

What achallenge to look intently, to return my gaze, full in his wonderful face.

Thank you so much for praying my daughter and her dad. These pryers are much needed.

I, too, love to take photographs and you describe it perfectly...you have to be able to see the beauty, capture, then share. Love it!

And this is why my pictures suck. I won't do what it takes and I don't look for the details. I just want to "get it done." (didn't want to do the cable guy line) :) LOVELY post.

What a beautiful bride! I love the analogy you make about doing whatever it takes to get a great shot and gazing on the Lord and reflecting Him. You have such a beautiful way with words!

Lisa, I thank you for your kind words on Heart Choices today. You, my friend, have encouraged me. If you ever get back to AZ, we must get to meet in person. Until then, I enjoy reading your words and I too hear your heart.

Much love,
Debbie

What a beautiful post. With a lovely picture, too.

I move too quickly. I am a do-er; I am task-oriented so I sometimes forget to look.

This is a great lesson and I will try to slow down and listen.

Blessings,
Jan

I really enjoyed this piece. It made me think about how often and how long I gaze at His glory. Not nearly long enough, I know that much. A beautiful encouraging reminder - thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing such loveliness!

Yes, Lisa, like Connie, these words really resonate with me. Love the photos of the photographer at work!

"If you want to reflect God, gaze on him.
Outright stare. (He won’t consider you rude.)"
I have to confess, when I've done this, I have found myself becoming undone by His Holiness and I've usually ended up face down on the ground in response! Not sure I shall be able to stare at Him fully until I am glorified....but so thankful for the glimpses He allows me to have of His glory.

Love this! Both the girls' interaction and the comparison to being a photographer, finding and showing other people His glory.

I am in awe of the gift photographers have of seeing and capturing beauty. You're so right--I may not be gifted as a photographer, but I can certainly practice and improve on seeing the beauty. Love, love the disclaimer!
