When you wonder if you know what you’re doing

graduation dayWhen she was turned five that June, she seemed so small and so young and I couldn’t see sending her off to school all day.

Not just yet.

So one year. Just one year. Let’s homeschool for kindergarten.

We did it. God blessed it. It was the year Jenna was born and we used the flexibility and togetherness and sister-bonding-with-sister time.

So one more year, God? Okay.

1st grade.
Turned into 2nd.
Then 3rd.
...12th.

And before I knew what happened,
she graduated from college.

Yesterday.

But wasn’t it just yesterday
that we
started
this adventure???
grad_parentsDid we know what we were doing way back when?

No. Definitely not.

But did God? Yes. Definitely yes.

Even when you can’t see the grand picture, he guides you in the freeze-frame.

In this step. During this day. For his reasons.

If that’s all the picture he’s revealing, trust him with the rest. He will lead you where he wants you to go, even when he’s the only one who knows where that is.

So don’t worry if you can’t see too far into the future. Relinquish control of the outcome. Just walk one step forward on your journey. Today’s step.

God is always up to something good.

Even when you don’t know what you’re doing,
God does.

* * *

What is God calling you to do today that you’re unsure about?

Congratulations!! To all of y'all. It was graduation on our campus yesterday (it may be the same campus. ha!) and it's neat thinking about all of the accomplishments and dreams walking around in black graduation gowns!

Congratulations to your daughter!

You know, that's the third time today that principle has come up about trusting God one step at a time. Makes me wonder what He's about to spring on me. :-)

How appropriate...Butterfly Kisses playing on my computer as I read your post...
We just blink our eyes and they're all grown up...
Blessings,
Mama Bear

hmmm, I'm not sure about this entire speaking thing that I seem to be on the path to, but you are so right -- God is sure. that's all I need to know.

Congrats!

Daisy Girl,
If your campus is Auburn, then maybe it was the same one. :-) Yes, lots of dreams all wrapped up in those gowns; great imagery. We took tons of pictures on Sunday of my daughter and her friends, and seeing them in those billowy gowns made them all look twice as big. Maybe they feel that way, all pumped up with plans right now. Praying God’s blessing on all of them!

I am a proud mama. I hope I would be just as proud even if she didn't graduate though. She's a sweet Christian young lady and that's what I'm most proud of. Praying she stays that way!

Barbara,
You better be on the lookout then! Ha. God often uses repetition with us…

Sammie,
Morgan is planning on using Butterfly Kisses for the father/daughter dance at her wedding. I’ll never make it through. He used to read the little book to her when she was small.

Jen,
I think your speaking path will be one that will really bring honor to the Father. I’m sure God will use you wisely. And yes, as long as HE knows what’s going on—which he does—you’re in good hands.

Congratulations! You and your husband must be so proud. And thank you for this reminder of God's hand in everything. It is timely for me.

First of all, that first picture is priceless, love the face. God is calling me to write. I keep telling Him he has the wrong girl. Apparently, he is not listening.

Congrats, this is a big deal!

Courtney,
There are certain truths that I have to remind myself of frequently, and remembering that God’s hand really IS on my everyday stuff is one of them. Glad this was timely for you. Your post today about scheduling fits right in with this theme for me too.

Amy,
You are most definitely a writer. I’m glad God has been stubborn with you. ;-)
Hope you have reliable internet service again. But haven’t McDonald’s and Hardee’s been a blessing with free wi-fi?

I agree with Courtney - this encouragement is timely for me, too. Thanks!

You were doing what I was doing this weekend -- being the mom of the college graduate! How awesome. My son graduated on Saturday, and we had a glorious couple of days with the whole family together.

What's He calling me to do? To get a 100 rejections! (see www.KindredHeartWriters.com!)

Laura,
Congrats to you too then! Graduations are fun times, although I did have a few sad thoughts when I realized that there will be several people I might not ever see again. But who knows?

I love your 100 rejections challenge. Do keep us posted because I’m sure you’ll be published in quite a few places as a result of your submissions. You’re such a good writer! And just in time for your summer “break.” :-)

Oh, Congratulations! Such a milestone. I'm sure God has big plans for your daughter...and for you as you enter a new season of life.

Blessings,
Pamela

Pamela,
Thanks. It’s been such a journey to watch what God is doing with my daughter. After a rough patch, things have been going so well for her and God seems to have cleared a path for her in this season. I know he does the same for each of us; sometimes it’s clear and sometimes not so clear but we can be sure he’s always working and loving.

Love this....Our Heavenly Father is already in our future.

Lisa notes... said...

Um, I could have summed it all up right there in your one sentence and spared everyone all my many words. :-)

“Our Heavenly Father is already in our future.”

He’s the God who is, who was, and who is to come (Revelations 1:8).
