Pull those weeds

tulips My tulips are in full bloom. The Shasta daisies are showing buds.

But the weeds are the most prolific.  weed

I finally pulled out the gardening gloves this week and dug in. How could I let the ugly things grow side by side for so long with the pretty things?

I do it all the time.

My heart my bloom out in one kind act, but right behind it may grow a root of self-entitlement. Or a branch of greed for something that doesn’t belong to me. Or an invasive feeling of failure in all I touch.

To cultivate a life that God desires, I’ve got to pull those weeds.
Frequently. Even if it’s painful.

I don’t want ugly things stealing nutrients that rightfully belong to the pretty things. The godly things.

My front flower bed looks a little cleaner now. But I’m not done yet. Gardening in the early spring takes diligence, time, and breath work. ...

        Spirit, clean me up.
        Grow me to maturity.
Whether it hurts me or not,
                     pull those weeds.

I saw your link on Holy Experience, and was struck by the timeliness. Spring places these thoughts on our hearts, and I think God in His wisdom, intended the seasons for that purpose. I had just written something along these lines yesterday. If you're interested, I've included the link. I don't usually do that, but we are like-minded this week, and I like it. :) Blessings to you as you weed!

...and we can never say, "I'm done! That's it!" because the weeds will keep coming back, to be removed yet again.
As you say, "whether it hurts me or not..."

Oh this is so true! Some ugliness sprang up in my last night. Where did it come from? It seemed to come so unannounced. The weeding process is continual. If we do it once and go away, we'll find the weeds choking out the blooms. We have to keep our eye on it, tend to it, guard our hearts. It's such an active thing, this Christian life we live.

Wow, thanks for making me think today! I can so identify with what you wrote; I think I'll pray about some "weeding" today...

How true your words are! Since we moved, I know have a large yard to care for and I'm learning that I must do weeding on a regular basis. This can apply to our spiritual walk too.

Blessings and love,
Debbie

The weeds grow so easily too, that's the hardest part of this life.

There are ever so many weeds in my life that need to be uprooted, pulled, yanked out so that they do not crowd out the good seeds growing.

Love your post today. Thank you for sharing.
Blessings.

Very labor inensive, but I love the satifaction of caring for what we've been given. Sometimes we just mow them creating a grass like effect, but where's the analogy in that?

I was having some very similar thoughts yesterday as I worked in one of my flower beds. I had gone with the intention of only doing part of it yesterday and coming back to more today, but instead I kept at it with all my heart until the bed was done because it just felt so good to be out there freeing it of the weeds. I remember wondering if I could honestly say that I tackled the "weeds of every day living" the same way. Thank you for a wonderful post.

Your photographs and words, Lisa, are always so striking. Thank you for always taking the time to put together something so meaningful every Wednesday for Ann's series. This post is no exception, and it really strikes at an area that I've been pondering.

I so look forward to seeing how you will approach Ann's theme for the week. You're such a blessing.
