Learned last week:
For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?
And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?
And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Romans 10:13-14
The prepositions kept getting us as we tried to memorize this. ON him. IN whom. IN him. OF whom.
But prepositions count. Their brevity belies their importance.
Whom do we call ON for help? Jesus.
Whom do we believe IN? Jesus.
He’s in and on and over and underneath. He’s with and beside and inside.
Let’s preach about him. So others can listen to him. And believe in him. And call on him.
And be saved by him.
“Everyone who calls, 'Help, God!' gets help.”
But how can people call for help if they don't know who to trust?
And how can they know who to trust if they haven't heard of the One who can be trusted?
And how can they hear if nobody tells them?

Learning this week:
Nothing new. We’re taking the week off from starting a new verse since our school week is shortened. Believe me, we still have plenty of room left for improving the previous verses.
Thankfully, God’s Word never gets stale, no matter how many times you review it. He implants it deeper each time through.

This post reminds me of a sermon I heard a few years back where the preacher weaved his sermon from verses containing the word "it" somewhere. For example, "For IT is appointed for men once to die..."

Love your prepositions! All about being a careful reader sometimes, isn't it? I'm always telling my girls, "Look at the text!" And having them pay attention to those seemingly small words that matter so much!
