Wondrous Words Wednesday

Wondrous Words Wednesday @ BermudaOnion What new words have you learned this week? Join Kathy to see more.

I only have one word, and I offer it questionably because I figured out the definition from the context. But, hey, I need at least one new word to play Wondrous Words Wednesday. :-) So I give you:

Gaffer. I know it in film lingo (the senior electrician on a movie set), but didn’t know this definition:

an old man, especially one living in the country: often used affectionately or patronizingly

The Gaffer

In Saturday Market, there’s eggs a-plenty
And dead-alive ducks with their legs tied down,
Gray old gaffers and boys of twenty—
Girls and the women of the town—
~ from Saturday Market by Charlotte Mew

Good words - I've seen gaffer used that way, but only in books.

My list is here.

There is something about the way gaffer sounds that greatly appeals to me.

Here are my Wondrous Words

I didn't know either one of the definitions for gaffer. So, double thanks.
