Three new words I learned this week from various places:

1. métier

Definition—(n) [MET-ee-ay]
a profession or trade; one’s specialty

2. Nostrum
Usage—from The Divine Conspiracy: “Our longing for goodness and rightness and acceptance makes us cling to bumper slogans, body graffiti, and gift shop nostrums that in our profound upside-downness somehow seem deep but in fact make no sense.”

Definition—(n) [NOS-truhm]
1. a quack medicine
2. a favorite but untested remedy for problems or evils

3. bupkis
Usage—from USA Today: “Physical textbooks are often resold as used books, so publishers get bupkis.”

Definition—(n) (also spelled bubkes)
something worthless; nothing
