Worship or work?

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Luke 1:38

What does it mean to be a servant? Where’s the grace in that?

I love that Mary uses the word servant here, because it communicates that service is an act of faith.

It isn’t me doing work for God, but it is me trusting God to do the work in me.

That is what Mary did. She believed the angel, and then she offered herself as a servant.

She didn’t pull herself up and get to work. Instead, she ran to Elizabeth her cousin and began to sing.

Worship, not work, flows out of the hearts of those who believe.
EMILY P. FREEMAN, Grace for the Good Girl

God supplies his servants grace to fuel their faith.

By grace—I serve as I worship.
By grace—I worship as I serve.

Love this- worship, not work, flows out of one who believes... I wonder why I'm so prone to "doing" for Jesus, not just "being" with Him in worship. Oh, I want worship to flow from my life. Thanks for the beautiful thoughts here.
It is amazing how God can use us as vessels when we are emptied out of ourselves... The ugly things vanish in His presence... all that is left is His grace and our action that speaks of His majesty.

It's the same type of thing as "bodies as living sacrifices"... seems almost impossible to do... I keep crawling off the altar!!! ;)

Ooh, yes. That is the right way to word it: we don't work for God. We put ourselves in a position that he may work through us!
