Grace is opposed to earning

31-Days-of-Grace_LisaNotesAt the last minute, I’ve decided to join the 31 Day series, blogging a short post on one topic for 31 days.

My topic? What else but Grace.

~ *~ * ~ * ~ *

Grace is not opposed to effort, it is opposed to earning.

Earning is an attitude.

Effort is an action.
   DALLAS WILLARD, The Great Omission

Drop the attitude; keep the action.

Hey there, I am also a 31 dayer.... and am actually visiting Inspired blogs to find some new places to read... while I also write about my topic (about Inner Beauty) I am linking those that I find that catch my fancy... and that God leads me to (no accidents), to read throughout the month too... reading YOU!
This quote gives me much to think about. I get the earning part. I have to think about effort being an action. I don't know that I get it. I was one who use to try and earn God's love and grace. I found out I did not need to do anything of my own to earn either one. It has been freeing. Effort...... what kind of effort I wonder, not the attitude of earning God's love. Thank you for the thought. I look forward to this series.

That's a great distinction. I think we easily misunderstand grace as not needing to make any efforts because it does not earn us anything. Yet, although what we "do" does not earn us God's love or salvation, it can bring us into closer relationship with God through sanctification and holiness. The attitude of grace keeps us humble, on our knees and in right relationship with God in order to do (be in) his will for his glory right here on earth. That is when we truly grow in maternity as a Christian. Few words spoke volumes to me. Thank you!
