“Burn Us Up”

I think dying to self is hard. In little things. What would I think about big things?

If I were faced with the choice that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced, what would I do?

If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.
Daniel 3:17-18

Burn Us Up
Shane and Shane
LYRICS

There were three
Before the king
There were three who wouldn’t bow to him
For when you heard
The music play
And you were standing you would burn
They looked at him and said…

Burn us up! Burn us up! Burn us up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire
We give up! We give up! We give up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire!
Won’t you throw us in the fire!

The king enraged
At what they said
Sent the three away to find their death
The palace stopped in unbelief
When the guilty raised their hands to sing
They looked to him and said…

Burn us up! Burn us up! Burn us up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire
We give up! We give up! We give up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire!
Won’t you throw us in the fire!

You are able to deliver from the fire of affliction
It’s the declaration of my Lord
You’re not an image of gold
You’re the God of old
You have made us
Come and save us
We are Yours
But even if You don’t,

Burn us up! Burn us up! Burn us up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire
We give up! We give up! We give up!
Oh king won’t you burn us in the furnace of
Your desire!
Won’t you throw us in the fire!

I'd grown up hearing this Bible story but it completely changed for me a few years ago when I realized they said "But even if He does not". Such faith - no guarantee that God would rescue them but that didn't change their steadfastness!

I hadn't heard this song before. Thanks for sharing.

I know, Linda. I grew up with this story, too, and while it was always impressive, it started meaning much more to me when I realized that they were voluntarily going to their deaths by fire, if God so chose. I can't imagine.

Now there is a LOT to ponder. I'd like to think I would...but I find myself whining about such little things, I'm not so sure. Thank you for sharing, Lisa.

Me, too, Dianna. Sometimes I think if it was a BIG thing like that, sure, I'd do it! But, how about getting through one day first truly seeking God's will in everything??? I pray for more grace for more faith like they had.
