“You Alone Can Rescue”

My daughter Jenna has been at Impact 2011 at Lipscomb University this week. Last night I tuned into their Live Streaming (secretly hoping I would catch a glimpse of her!), but wanting to participate in spirit with their worship anyway. And noting that we adults can learn a lot from watching these teenagers worship their Lord.

The second song I caught them singing was this Matt Redman song.

The lyrics remind us that we can never, never, never save ourselves. But no worries: the Lord is able and more than willing to cover us in grace.

You Alone Can Rescue
Matt Redman
LYRICS

Who, oh Lord, could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still

Who, oh Lord, could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still

CHORUS:
You alone can rescue, You alone can save
You alone can lift us from the grave
You came down to find us, led us out of death
To You alone belongs the highest praise

You, oh Lord, have made a way
The great divide You heal
For when our hearts were far away
Your love went further still
Yes, your love goes further still

CHORUS

We lift up our eyes, lift up our eyes
You’re the Giver of Life (repeat)

CHORUS

To You alone

I do so enjoy watching the young people in our community worship the Lord. Our university district has the most vibrant praise and worship! Patsy from

Live streaming?? Did they do this during Impact Jr. too?? I would love to have checked in on Halle and our gang. I don't see anything at the Impact site about it.

We sang this in church last week. I didn't realize it was a Matt Redman song. Thanks for sharing. :)

Karen,
I *think* they streamed the nightly sessions of both Jr and Sr Impact this year. I went to the Lipscomb site and clicked on "Lipscomb Live."

I also think I saw somewhere that they're streaming the nightly sessions of Summer Celebration too, which is Wed-Fri nights of this coming week. They're always great.

We sung this in my church, too -- didn't know it was a Matt Redman song, either, lol. Great song! :)

Beautiful song and great reminder that we can do nothing of any value on our own, including saving ourselves from eternal separation from God.

it reminds me, Lisa, of "who can save your soul" by Jewel – and her answer – yourself. In a way it's true – if I turn from God is no saving – though only he saves – if we don't turn – there is no saving. And I heart your high-tech spying method btw :-) God bless you Lisa!

It's easy to think your own strength can get you back up again, until you try and then you realize without His help you can't.
