Friday’s Fave Five # 105

What special blessings have you received the past 7 days?

Here are five of mine:

1. Book Club still strongelisabeth amberlyOur Mother/Daughter book club is still going strong. We’re halfway through the book and have had lots of good conversations.

But the best part is just being together to discuss spiritual things, laugh at old family stories, and okay—eat some delicious desserts each week!

2. An impromptu lunch with
the 4 Corners
Julie decided to make a quick visit into town last weekend, so with some even quicker texting and e-mails, we pulled together a lunch date. And a quick summer catch-up.

The next event we’ll all be together? Morgan’s wedding!

3.The Butter Bean BandButter_Bean_Band Definitely a highlight of the week. Jenna was a special guest singer in her granddad’s bluegrass/country band. They sang Tuesday night at an assisted living home and have another performance scheduled for Saturday.

4. Final team meetingvbs_skit
preparing_biblesLast Saturday we held our final 3-church meeting for our El Salvador team.

I was able to learn a little more Spanish and finally meet the Spanish speaker from my own congregation. A delight!

5. Worship flow
Our 5:30 singing time this week was centered around themes from Psalm 4. It’s always a feast to sing to our Father with my brothers and sisters.

Here are some of my favorite lines from six of the songs we sang:

          ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

With singing lips I will praise
And my soul will be satisfied
Your love is better than life

         ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Almighty Father we are Your children
You have been faithful to Your own

          ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And I fall to my knees
So it’s You that they see, not I
Jesus You be lifted high

          ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I bring an offering of worship to my King
No one on earth deserves the praises that I sing
Jesus may You receive the honor that You’re due
O Lord I bring an offering to You

          ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Lord let Your grace, grace from Your hand, fall on us
Lord let Your love, love with no end come over us

          ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Gentle Shepherd come and feed us
For we need Your strength from day to day

          ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

What’s been a highlight of your week?

The Mother-Daughter book club sounds so good! And how neat when an impromptu get-together works out.

My other-in-law doesn't like to go hear the groups that come to her assisted living place (she can't hear much and prefers to stay in her room and read), but a lot of the residents really love to go down and listen and sometimes sing along. How neat that your daughter and her granddad were able to do that.

Exciting times coming up with the wedding and mission trip!

A rich and lovely week! The mother daughter book club is such a great idea!

And you have a wedding coming up? Me too! Happy (and busy!) times

I'm intrigued by your worship time. I'd like to hear more.

Happy weekend Lisa!

Kathie,
Thanks for the prayers for the girls.

That worship hour on Wednesday nights is one of my most treasured hours of the week. A small number of us meet at my church building for one hour before the regularly scheduled devotional to sing some of the newer songs we’re learning. Different men take turns leading, but when Stuart leads, he often has thought through a series of songs and scriptures that center around a particular Biblical message or trait of God or from the Psalms, etc.

This past Wednesday Stuart had prepared slides from verses of Psalm 4 so we could each take turns reading a verse aloud from the psalm, followed by him leading us into songs that centered on the theme in the verse, until we had completed the psalm.

It really draws my heart into praise and worship when we combine scripture directly with singing, with few distractions in between. In a world of multi-tasking (and I am the worst), that time of focused concentration on the Lord always pulls my heart closer to Him and helps me remember what really counts.

What a full and joyful week! God bless your ongoing wedding and mission preparations.

Two highlights of my week were a long, unexpected hug from the toddler next store and blogging affirmation from a surprising source.

Happy weekend!

It sounds like a wonderful week.I love the idea of a mother daughter book club. My daughters are all grown and that would be a great idea for us. If they are not to busy to read.

The mother-daugther book club sounds like a great thing. Isn't it fun to have an impromptu meet up? How did we ever manage those times without our cell phones?
