5 things worth celebrating

What have you celebrated this week?

My theme this week for God in the Yard is Celebration

Here are five things, large and small, that I’m celebrating this week:

1. Fresh loveengagedThis is huge. We found out Tuesday night that we’re going to have a son-in-law. And a married daughter, probably by August! Definitely something to celebrate for years to come!

2. Blood tiesfamily_mealIt’s always fun celebrating extended family at our monthly meals. This month we were at my brother’s house. My niece Amanda resumed her role as Game-Meister. She taught us Bananagrams this time. Try it; it’s fun!

3. Satisfying workyardworkWhile we often speak of work as a negative thing, work can be a positive gift from God. Jeff and I enjoyed working Saturday morning with Morgan and Fuller in the yard, and then Sunday night with Jenna in presenting a lesson to our small group. Both works were fulfilling and worth celebrating.

4. Services of others
Even when you have to pay for them, celebrate them. After years of doing our own taxes, I convinced Jeff they’re too complicated now, so last year and last night we’ve taken them to a paid accountant. I love the feeling of walking out of his office and leaving the work behind. Definitely a celebration for me.

5. The ultimate God
While we can and should worship God in all that we do, there’s still something special to me about time in straight-up worship. We had over an hour Wednesday night with eyes and hearts focused in praise and prayer on God’s holiness, faithfulness, justice, and mercy. He is reason for extreme celebration!

* * *

Did you experience something worth celebrating this week?

Whoo hoo, a wedding! Congratulations to the happy engaged couple!

Work is good. Work with many hands is even better! :v)

Congrats again to the happy couple!

Often in our family we "divide and conquer" chores, but it is fun to work on something together.

I've not heard of that game -- sounds fun! I enjoy it when the whole family plays.

Thankfully hubby does our taxes -- if it was up to me, I'd be so lost!

How nice a forthcoming wedding !
My son and his partner although they just had their first baby, don't want to get married. I don't know why, they are 37 and 38 ! and 7 years together !

These are wonderful reasons for celebrations. I love each one but can't wait to say I'm happy for you! I mean the wedding :) They're general all-time favorites, and they just make me smile.

Thank goodness for work. When it's done well it's double the fun. I'd like to try bananagrams. If you recommend it then I'm curious.

and I can relate about the tax thing. We do it with turbo tax, online now, and love it! we're always done in just an hour and so we now do it early! Enjoy your weekend...

I think it's great that you get together monthly with your immediate family. None of my immediate family lives here except my parents and you know I get together with them 3 times a week! But, I recongize the value in this since I don't have family support here. I would say that is a tremendous value to your family!

How exciting to have a newly engaged daughter! Congratulations!

I agree about the power of worship. There is simply nothing that compares with spending time in wholehearted worship (whatever that looks like for each of us)!

Congratulations to all of you! I love all of the family references in your list. It sounds like your new SIL is a lucky guy and will be welcomed with open arms.

Oh how I love dropping off the papers at the accountants and letting him deal with it! Such a load off my mind. I'm glad for you, too! Looks like a great week. Oh how sweet...you have fresh love at your house, too. Enjoy the plans for the wedding! Blessings...

Congratulations! Both to you and to the happy couple. Have fun planning the wedding and DON'T STRESS OVER THE LITTLE THINGS on the big day! I had so much fun planning my daughter's wedding and we chose to ignore the things that were going wrong (because something always goes wrong) in the execution of our plans. It was a fun day.

We have a wedding in August as well!

Time in God's presence is always a favorite.

Karyn,
I think not stressing over the little things will be a key factor in our enjoyment of the day. I remember my own wedding day and how relaxing it was to just ENJOY it and not worry about anything except the wonderful man I was marrying. I hope my daughter will be able to do that, and that we have fun in the planning as well.

Enjoy your wedding in August!
