A day in January

The Simple Woman's DaybookOutside my window...are Jenna’s dog Kandie and Morgan’s dog Blaze romping in the front yard (I hope they’re still there anyway)

I am thinking...I need to make my New Year’s resolutions more measurable

I am creating...a new daily schedule for 2011

I am wondering...what I can cut out this year to create more open spaces

I am hoping...Morgan will feel better soon from mono and strep

I am thankful...that Jeff drove to get her Sunday so we can take care of her at our house

In the learning rooms...are math problems to check and a physics test to grade

In the kitchen...are boxes of Christmas decorations gathering for their 11-month attic sabbatical

I am resolving...to worry less and depend more

I am wearing...a white long-sleeve shirt, not-my-favorite red sweat pants, and tennis shoes

I am going...nowhere today!

I am looking forward to...getting back into our routine (even though I loved the break)

I am reading...a huge stack of real books and only one Kindle book

I am appreciating...the advice in Switch to look for the bright spots

I am hearing...a horse show Morgan is watching on her laptop on the couch (and getting sucked in myself)

I am realizing...that reading the Bible slower works better for my relationship with God

I am studying...humility and Philippians

I am praying...about which three requests to pick for our family’s group prayer list

I am pondering these words...“Obviously we do not always know how God will answer our prayers, or if He will move in the heart of another individual, but it is enough to know that our destiny is in His hands, not those of other people.” Jerry Bridges, Trusting God

One of my favorite things...is the fresh-start feeling God plants in me each January

A picture for thought...from the cemetery on 12/31...about the Father’s love that glues a family together through all life’s cyclesfamily_daybook

"Depend more - worry less"...I'm working on that one, also, Lisa. I know in my head that it basically amounts to believing God is Sovereign...some days that knowledge stays in my head but isn't resonated in my actions. Thanks for the reminder.

I love the freshness of January, too. It's full of promise & possibilities.

Hope Morgan is feeling better soon!

You're right Dianna--I also believe it comes down to believing that God is sovereign and God is good. I *know* it overall, but too often I let it slip in and out of the daily stuff.

I feel it's also very connected with my pride--feeling that *I* would know what is best and can do it myself. Sigh. Crazy, huh? I have THE GOD of the universe who is for me, so why don't I rest ALL the time in him instead of feeling anxious or afraid? It definitely feels good and right when I do!

Reading the Bible more slowly -- yes, me too!

Happy New Year to you, dear friend. Love you!

Lisa,
Love that quote by Bridges. I'll be putting it in my commonplace book. May God bless Morgan with a quick recovery, and may she praise Him for His goodness and mercy to her.

I feel the same way about this time in January -- I loved and needed the break but am glad to get back into a routine. Or at least to work on getting back there, LOL!

I love to set out my fresh new calendar but somehow haven't filled in the birthdays and hung it yet.

Hi Lisa! Thanks for stopping by. I hope Morgan feels better soon. I've had Mono and strep, neither one at all fun.

I like that quote from J. Bridges---goes along with "worry less, depend more." I am reeeeeally bad at this and it's when I try take control of things that I seem to be less in control. Probably because God is teaching my silly little heart to depend more to Him!

Have a blessed week :)

I'm in love with new beginnings, so I really like what you said: "One of my favorite things...is the fresh-start feeling God plants in me each January."

I also agree about reading the bible slower - taking time to wait and see if God says anything to you as you savor each scripture verse.

I found your site linked on the Simple Woman's Daybook site. I love the quote you are pondering, and am so glad I had the chance to read it. I know that to be true in my head, but so often my heart forgets and begins to fret. It was a nice reminder.

Looks like you are thinking some of the same things that I am. BUT what is in your stack of books and on your Kindle? That is my favorite of the questions.

Blessings,

Amy,
I’m almost embarrassed to say how many books I’ve got going right now! ha. The Kindle book is Jerry Bridges, “Trusting God” (and the Bible—I didn’t count that one).

Of my real books, some are re-reads: "Crazy Love" and "The Grace Awakening." The new ones are “In the President’s Secret Service” (very intriguing!), “The Shallows” (so-so), Switch (loving it). I finished “The Mysterious Benedict Society” today (a cute kids’ novel). Then my Amazon order came in yesterday with: “The Pleasure of God”, “A Praying Life,” and “Pure Pleasure”. I love books; can you tell? :-)

OK Lisa, I am exactly the same when it comes to books. I enjoy reading them, looking at them, talking about them, reviewing them, and READING what others are reading. :)

I have read Crazy Love and A Praying Life - both good and some of your other reads are on my wishlist. I really, really heart the Kindle (we live in South America so it is extra nice.)

I am presently reading I am Hutterite, Reaching and Teaching (about missions), and finishing The Mission of Motherhood along with others I am dabbling in when I can not wait!

Enjoy you reading,
Amy @ Missional Mama
