Do the strong thing

strong womanThis year has not been easy—it could have easily broken and destroyed a much stronger woman than I.
~ Rebekah Menter

I had to read it twice.

I’m conditioned to finish that sentence this way: “It could have easily broken and destroyed a much WEAKER woman than I.”

But like many things in God’s kingdom, think upside down.
Slaves are great; poor are rich; last are first.

And the weak are strong.

But God, in His infinite grace, has caused this weak woman to withstand such a storm so that He might be revealed strong amidst my weakness.

I was reminded of that last week when Julie, one of my soul mate bff’s, called to wish me a happy birthday. We talked about when we met twenty years ago, a time we both were desperately weak in storm aftermaths of broken marriages.

If we hadn’t realized our need for God’s help through God’s people, we would each have stayed home that Monday night instead of ending up at the same divorce recovery meeting. But God had strong plans through our weakness. He knew we’d be much healthier together than we would be alone.

Whew. I’m glad he works that way. Acknowledging my weakness is the strongest thing I ever do. It keeps me from breaking. From being destroyed. From trying to go it alone.

So do the smart thing: admit you are weak.
It can only make you stronger.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
Proverbs 18:10

But he said to me,
“My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses,
so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Have you ever had to admit you are weak? What happened?

Thanks, Rebekah, for the thought-provoking blog post.

I love this: "But God, in His infinite grace, has caused this weak woman to withstand such a storm so that He might be revealed strong amidst my weakness." Amen. Thanks for sharing!

How true this is, Lisa. And, I think the closer we grow to Christ, the more we see just how weak we are. I've felt this weakness so much these past several days. I'm so thankful for the strength found in His Word. Hugs!

I'm catching up on blog reading after this busy season--and am so glad to see that something I wrote was able to bless you. What an amazing thing it is that God uses us, not only DESPITE our weaknesses, but because of them! (I Cor 1:27)
