All my words this week came from The Heart Mender by Andy Andrews.
1. loupe
(n) [loop]
Definition—any of several varieties of magnifying glasses, used by jewelers and watchmakers, intended to fit in the eye socket, to be attached to spectacles, or to be held in the hand
Use—“Remembering the letters I had barely made out on the back of the first button I found, I dug an old 8X photographer’s loupe out of my desk and looked at the back of one of the actual buttons.”
2. conning tower
(n) [KON-ing]
Definition—the low observation tower of a submarine, constituting the main entrance to the interior
Use—“The commander stood on the forward section of the conning tower as the last colors of sunrise melted away.”
Definition—any marine clupeid fish resembling a shad but with a more compressed body, common along the eastern coast of the U.S., and used for making oil and fertilizer
Use—“A school of jack crevalle, slashing and swirling as they pounded menhaden near the beach, caught the couple’s attention for a moment.”

Thanks for the reminder that I need to be learning new words continually!
You always find the most interesting words. And, I like all the illustrations too. It's always fun to come here on Wednesdays.
The only word I knew was loupe. My dad used to use one when he worked with small electronic equipment. Thanks for participating!
