So it’s no wonder—Psalm 103 (Memory Monday)

Learned last week
11  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12  as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13  As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.
14  For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

      Psalm 103:11-14 love_god_in_sand

He loves steadfastly
I felt God’s steadfast love in the hugs yesterday of friends visiting me after Daddy died. I read it in the messages sent via e-mail and Facebook and Twitter. I heard it in the words of comfort spoken to my family. I tasted it in the food sent to the house to nourish our bodies as well as souls.

He removes transgressions
I am guilty of doing several wrong things on this life-to-death-to-life journey the past 3 months. I’m still dealing with them internally, but I know I’m forgiven already. Can there be a greater source of peace than a bottomless pit of forgiveness from the Lord?

He shows compassion
I spent Saturday night, in two hour stretches, listening to my dad struggle for every single breath. When I drove to my own home at 9 a.m. to sleep a bit and take a shower, I did neither. My brother called me shortly after I arrived, and said that this might be it. But by the time we drove back, Daddy had already died. Peacefully, with no struggle. It happened as the Lord meant for it to be. A gift of compassion. And I was at peace as well, even though I hadn’t been present, another gift of compassion, to me, from the Lord.

He knows; he remembers
He knows how frail I am, and how easily I crumble.

So he loves me steadfastly.
So he removes my transgressions.
So he shows me compassion.

So no wonder I love him.

* * * More Memory Monday

Learning this week
We were scheduled to learn the next four verses in Psalm 103, but God’s Word is overwhelming making its presence known in other ways, so we’ll resume memorizing next week.

Are you memorizing scripture this week? Join us at Joanne’s for Memory Monday.

Dear Lisa - this past three months in your life have been overwhelming - new territory to navigate.

Your posting here is poignant in its honesty. I just want to encourage you to give yourself grace as you feel that you may have been or done things "less" than "perfectly" in this new journey.

I know for myself that I felt guilty during or afterwards about my lack of patience when in reality I was struggling with letting go of someone I loved so dearly. Lack of sleep, anticipatory grief when grief is already present, family members wanting to make the right decisions and struggling to be on the same page - it all takes a human toll.

Grace - grab it and know you are loved by Him and so understood by Him at every turn.

Love you! Continuing prayers for you and your family.

Lisa,

I find your blog to be very nourishing. I wanted you to know I have place a link to your blog on one of my blogs. I started one where I can primarily focus on what Jesus is saying to me daily, and filter out all the other stuff. Anyway, thanks for being a blessing!

Stephani--I visit your blog, too, so I've seen where your heart is. Blessings to you as you focus on Jesus daily! That encourages me to do the same.
