Advent Journey, Wk 3—Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five @ Living to Tell the Story

For more favorites of the week, join Susanne for Friday’s Fave Five.

1. BBQ ribs—Sunday
John 6:51

Is this bad? One of the reasons I went to small group Bible study on Sunday night was because Barrion promised to bring his famous barbecue ribs. He delivered. Oh my. The best.

But God brought me there that night for a spiritual feast as well. He set the table with scriptures, songs, prayers, and love. All I had to do was sit down and enjoy. He provided. He always has. Always will.

2. Navigators—Monday
John 14:6

Even though our GPS said, “Arriving at destination,” Jenna and I didn’t believe we were at Christmas Charities on Monday afternoon. So I kept driving. We finally turned around, and Jenna helped me navigate back to the original spot. This time we saw the big sign we had missed earlier that said “Christmas Charities.” Duh.

Jesus came to show us the way, to be the Way. But despite his accurate directions and huge signs, sometimes I still don’t see the way. So he turns me around and heads me back in the right direction.

3. Husband hands—Tuesday
Matthew 11:28-29

I paid the price on Tuesday for keeping up the same work pace as the teens at Christmas Charities on Monday. My back was aching more than normal early Tuesday morning. By 2 a.m., I nudged Jeff with an Advil request. He brought it, then he helped me more by massaging me with his strong hands. I felt better.

I imagine the power in Jesus’s strong carpenter hands. When he touched the ill and weak with his strength, you know they automatically felt better.

4. 2 ½ hours of singing—Wednesday
Luke 2:20

Wednesday night was singing night. We “practiced” from 5:30-6:30, then sang from 6:30-8:00. My heart had been heavy all week, but singing praises to the Father with the family miraculously lifted my burdens. Stuart led us from his own heart full of God.

I needed to hear others sing to me, and hear myself sing to others, about how wonderful God is and how faithful are his promises.

5. A full house—Thursday
Luke 2:51

Morgan came home today from Auburn. She always makes us laugh. And her crazy dog Blaze fits right in. I treasure these times in my heart.

I imagine how Mary must have felt when she was a week away from her baby’s birth. She probably was scared and excited and full of questions. She was on the verge of doing her part to change the world by birthing the Savior.

May we all live in amazement this one week away from Christmas!

In Yorkshire we didn't just ignore our GPS, we even talked back to it, 'shut up' because once it was not very accurate we had to stop and use the map. I wish Jesus' own instructions were programmed into the heart of our navigating systems then we'd all never be lost.

I don't think one should be ashamed for enjoying BBQ ribs. ;D (But then I'm originally from Texas and BBQ is the one thing I truly love about the state and miss the most!) So, you are enthusiastically supported in that!

Singing is also a wonderful thing.

Have a great weekend and a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

hee, hee That was some great incentive to make it to Bible Study. It is always wonderful to see how God delivers even when we are unprepared. It is good to have our grown kids come home. Enjoy...
Merry Christmas to you and yours...

You are funny for admiting about the BBQ ribs, and I guarantee I would do the same thing. LOL!
I have done that with our GPS also, it says arriving, and the place is no where to be found! Looking for signs is important! :)
Enjoy the full house!!!!

Still praying for you and you dear dad, I know that must way heavy on your mind.

Yummm, BBQ ribs, sounds like a good reason to leave the house to me! ;)

My GPS drives me crazy sometimes, but it really is helpful!

I say, whatever gets you to the fellowship and Bible Study works! We love ribs here too and our neighbor occasionally supplies us with samples as he is perfecting his rubs and sauces! Mmmmm....

Isn't it great when someone comes home and lights up the whole place?

Have a happy weekend!
