1. tableau
(n) [TAB-loh]
Definition—a group of people attractively arranged (as if in a painting)
Usage—“Thirty-five years later, I was striking a pristine tableau...an elegant bride, a tuxedo-clad father, the strains of a pipe organ, a church filled with people we loved.”

2. chancel
(n) [CHAN-sel]
Definition—the part of a church containing the altar and choir
Usage—“You and I have stood in the chancel, holding our daughter’s hand. But it wasn’t only a ceremony we were waiting for; it was a whole new life.”

I've heard the word tableau plenty of times, but I couldn't define it when I saw you had it listed. What a great word! Thanks for participating!
Good words. I knew them both but couldn't necessarily have defined them, you know?
Oddly enough, I learned tableau when I was studying French (it means writing board or blackboard) so never learned the English definition for the word until now. :D
And chancel, that's one I've never seen before (that I can easily recollect). Cool beans.
Those are good words - the sort of words that sound familiar but people can't really define.
