Girlfriend relationships are never static—they grow; they wane; sometimes bring joy; sometimes bring pain. But they are gifts no matter what.
God used my girlfriends this week to give me some sweet gifts of the heart.
I thank him. And I thank them.
1. Beverly
We had lost touch, but reconnected this week, thanks to Facebook and to my sister. What a joy! Beverly is one of those ladies that talks about the deep and encouraging things, things that matter. Her presence and energy this week lifted me higher. She gifted me with a wonderful grace Wednesday night: she said she sees in my eyes that I’m very happy and Spirit-filled. What a precious gift from a precious sister - I’m keeping it close to my heart.
2. Andrea
We met two years ago over a Krispy Kreme t-shirt at Auburn’s Camp War Eagle for our then incoming freshmen children. We bonded, and a month later we covenanted to pray for each other’s child during their Auburn years. I didn’t know then that I would desperately need the gift of her expertise these past two weeks. God is much smarter than me to put the right people in my life. Andrea called me again yesterday to check up on me and encourage me on. She makes me wiser.
3. Rachel
Rachel is Rachel. She’s one of those much-desired women (but not often found) who is low (or no) drama. I’ve grown to know and love her even more this past year. Her gift to me this week was a come-along-beside gift: last Sunday afternoon we sat by each other and sang alto together for hours, and were both touched by the emotion of God in music and the movement of the Spirit in prayer. Wednesday night she commented on it again, and I inwardly thanked God (again) for Rachel. Now I’m doing it outwardly.
4. Kay
Kay had my back this week. Our daughters are BFF, so when Jenna was sick at Kay’s house on Wednesday, Kay waited it out with her instead of calling me to come get her. When Jenna ended up too sick to make it to church that night, Kay brought her all the way to my house (no short drive) so that I could get to church on time, and then taught the 3-yr-old class that Jenna was supposed to teach so that I could go to my adult class. All gifts - not only to Jenna, but gifts to me, too. All appreciated; none deserved.
5. Selwyn
Has anyone ever prayed for me as specifically and consistently as Selwyn? What a gift! This week (like many) she asked me questions to keep me accountable in places that I’m weak. She also sent me e-mails reminding me of things, like, “The WHOLE earth IS filled with His glory!” and praising God for the way he is at work. Her deep and sincere love for the Lord and for the lost is contagious, and it’s a gift to me to get to hang around her.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,
always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy.

Lovely reminders of how blessed we are with FRIENDS and Christian SISTERS.

Aren't girlfriends great? I love that Facebook has brought some of mine back into my life, when I thought contact with them was lost forever.

Sorry, I'm late getting by your blog for FFF (it's almost time for another one!) but I didn't want the week to go by without visiting.
Wonderful post, and thanks for reminding us to be thankful for each and every friend!
