Corner view: Music

What does music look like in your corner of the world?

This is what it looks like inside my house. But don’t let its humble appearance belie its importance: it is very essential, trust me. It’s a crucial connection between God and me.

* * * * *

1. My first-love piano. It has put in more than its fair share of finger-years. It has been a faithful friend and taught me many melodies and harmonies:

2. Primitive, but, hey, it still plays tunes and asks for so little in return, especially compared with the heat and humidity it puts up with:

5. And while it may not be totally fair to include this one this summer, we did spend many hours in each other’s company last summer, learning and complaining together until we finally worked out a satisfactory arrangement. The romance of strings definitely wows me. We still talk occasionally, but mainly we decided to keep our relationship as “just friends.”

Music in my corner of the world helps me relax. I have a piano that my parents gave me one year for Christmas that I do not use nearly enough. My husband recently bought me an Ipod. I enjoy using it while I'm doing laundry and cleaning house. And of course, there's the car radio! I'm impressed that you tried guitar. Closest I ever got was Guitar Hero!

I just spent longer-than-I-care-to-admit organizing my iTunes library. Music is essential here too--though I cannot play a tune nor sing a note! A joyful noise, indeed!
