Who believes more in prayer...me or Satan?

Does the devil believe more in prayer than we Christians do?

This morning Erik Kowalker posted this quote on his blog Gospel Reminders, and it was a good reminder for me.

The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, he mocks our wisdom but he trembles when we pray. ~ SAMUEL CHADWICK

Another quote by Samuel Chadwick (a 19th century minister in England):
“Prayer is the acid test of devotion.”

True? Then are we as devoted as we like to think we are? Do we believe Jesus’ words enough to take the time to even “ask”? To "seek"? To "knock"? Is it really so hard to do?

7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?
11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
~ Matthew 7
