Around the house...not this! Double Dark Chocolate donut from Krispy Kreme. Because I ate it. And it was delicious.

created-for-communityI am thankful...for you—my sweet online community—and that I get to write about you for the community series this month at Do Not Depart. And on Valentine’s Day, no less!

I am wondering...about something I signed up to do that I’m not sure I want to do11 scrapbook

In the learning rooms...I finally finished Jenna’s 11th grade scrapbook

I am creating...the last one—12th grade! (never mind that she’s a college sophomore already)

I am hoping...I have no further connectivity problems with my 2nd generation Kindle because I do love it so, even though it’s “old” (relatively speaking)

I am appreciating...the privilege of listening to a variety of voices read scripture last Sunday morning

I am hearing...City on the Hill by Casting Crowns (and watching the video)

You see, the poets thought the dancers were shallow
And the soldiers thought the poets were weak
And the elders saw the young ones as foolish
And the rich man never heard the poor man speak

And one by one, they ran away
With their made-up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade in the city on the hill
The city on the hillInsurgent-veronica-rath

I am pondering these words...from Insurgent because it’s one of the reasons I am in the community of Christ-followers: “I decide to keep the shirt to remind me why I chose Dauntless in the first place: not because they are perfect, but because they are alive. Because they are free.”

I am looking forward to...the 3rd book of the Divergent series from Veronica Roth. I finished Insurgent on Saturday and it mesmerized me. Filming for Divergent the movie begins in Chicago this April; to be released in Spring 2014.Torn-by-Justin-Lee

I am reading...Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christians Debate

I am thinking...how so many things I “randomly” read, see, hear, experience are so thematically connected to each other—it’s a God thing

I am praying...to “ruthlessly eliminate hurry from my life, for hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life” (Dallas Willard) as I practice slowing down this monthHiding-Psalm-71-in-my-heart

I am studying...and memorizing Psalm 71 and so benefiting from it. This week: “Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you” Psalm 71:6.

One of my favorite things (and now sad thing)...was the lovely Auburn tradition of rolling the oaks at Toomer’s Corner, now ending at a big block party on April 20, 2013, because the trees were poisoned.

I am excited...to soon see the house that Morgan and Fuller are buying

A few plans for this week...Jenna coming home; loving on our homeless community at the annual King’s Banquet; our monthly family meal at my baby sister’s house

A picture to share...the winning photo for the 2013 Outdoor Alabama contest, youth 13-18 category. So I’m not just a biased mother after all? :-)

Love the quote from "Insurgent." Haven't read that series yet, but it is on my to-do list.

"Torn" also sounds like a good read. You always have such interesting book selections!

What a beautiful picture by Jenna! So nice when we get confirmation from others of our children's talents, isn't it?

Hopefully I will find time for my own daybook soon. Today is full of laundry and errands, I think.

I thought you'd like the Divergent series, Karen. If you liked The Hunger Games. It's in that genre. And Torn is very good; destroys a lot of myths out there.

I'm guessing your Daybook will have a picture of that sweet baby? She is SO beautiful. I know you're having a blast with her.

Love this. I am a Casting Crowns fan as well -- we will be seeing them in concert next month. So looking forward to it!

Have fun seeing Casting Crowns in concert! They're one of my favorite groups to actually see in person because they turn their concerts into a great big time of worship. Love that.

Congratulations to Jenna for winning for that photo! It's amazing.

It's a good thing there are no Krispy Kremes close to us -- I have a hard time resisting that "Hot Donuts Now" sign.

Shame about those trees.

It was the "Hot Donuts Now" sign that did me in. If it hadn't been on, I would have resisted the stop altogether. Then once we were there, I saw the picture of the dark chocolate donut, and I had no resistance at all. ha.

Congrats to Jenna...Its an awesome photo....may you take many more award winning shots....
Sad about the Oaks! They'll be missed....It is a shame anytime old trees are taken down but this was a senseless crime.
I love chocolate glazed, creme filled doughnuts, I drool every time I pass them in the grocery store...
I have downloaded Divergent and perhaps will begin it today....
Hey, the sun is shinning in Monrovia!!

Yes, I hate to see any old trees go down, but especially unnecessarily. They felled tons of beautiful old trees in my neighborhood a few years back and it made me so sad. I never know how much I loved trees until I started seeing them disappear.

Loving that sunshine here, too!!! Maybe we can keep it around a little while? I haven't watched the forecast to see, but seems like we're due.

My daughter loves the Divergents series and hopes the movie does the books justice. I haven't read them yet.

Love the pic of the duck. I can see why it won!

Usually my daughter reads books like these first, then tells me about them, but I was one up on her this time with finding Divergent. ha. I bought it for her for Christmas, then she bought Insurgent herself afterwards and I borrowed it from her; otherwise I'd still be waiting on it to come off hold at the library. :-)

Jenna's already a sophomore? Man oh man... I guess I've been hanging around here longer than I thought? Wow. Sounds like a full life with a heart pointing in the right direction; toward our Father...

Enjoy your weekend with your baby. Is there anything that girl can't do???

Time is flying, but just so you won't think you're losing track of it...Jenna did get bumped into sophomore-hood a little early. ;-) She had college credits from her senior year in high school, so it just all added up.

I am looking forward to my weekend with her! Enjoy the time you still have with your baby girl at home. They fly out of our nests before we know it, yes?

Yes indeed. Ali, who just graduated in Dec. is moving back down to Tucson to start her career... Two down, one whose trying to grow up faster than she should is the only one left.

I want a dark chocolate donut and I want it now! So bummed that Krispy Kreme isn't near me:( And I am going to see Casting Crowns at the end of the month, thanks for getting me in the mood!

I'd be a lot better off if there was NOT a Krispy Kreme near me. :-) It's too tempting.

I'm sure the Casting Crown concert will be wonderful. I haven't heard much off their newest release of acoustic stuff (I think it's a remix of older stuff?) but everything they do is good to me. Enjoy!

Beautiful photo! No, you're definitely not biased. Thanks for the Willard quote. Today is full and uncomfortably busy, but I will pray against a hurried heart. Jesus is sufficient, right?

"full and uncomfortably busy" - those are the trying days. I'll join you in praying that you're making it through with an unhurried heart anyway. Yes, Jesus is sufficient. I have to remind myself of that more often in those kinds of days. Blessings to you, Christina.

WOW!! SO MUCH GOOD STUFF in this post. I love all that is going on about you and around you. I would love to hear your take on the TORN book, Lisa...let me know. I admire you for your JUST DOING IT...and working on those scrap-books. **(I want to do one for Justin and have all the materials, but just don't know WHERE to start) NEED to go do a workshop. Really. FOUR years in the Corp, and just reupped and there's NO excuse for me...and here go TWO more on a journey...ay ya ya! LOVE the photo. It is SO AWE-INSPIRING. I am so thankful for the gift of photography in this world. Especially for all the photos of God's creation that so many talented people capture...blink of the eye moments we would miss!!! You are a creative and inspiring woman, and I'm so glad to know you, Lisa! I love that portion of the verse..."Upon You I have leaned from BEFORE my birth..." hard to grasp, but I know it's TRUE!! God is awesome. :-) {{HUGS}} to you Lisa. have a warm day! xo

I'll be sure to let you know about Torn when I finish. I'm over halfway through right now, and it's been very good.

Those scrapbooks--I have a love/hate relationship with them. ha. I enjoy working on them when I'm actually at the table involved in it, but dread it when I'm not doing it. Of course I LOVE having them afterwards to flip through! So I hope you'll find the motivation to scrapbook your Marine's journey because you'll totally enjoy looking back over it once you're done. :-)

I'm very thankful to know you, too, Julie. You bring such life and joy every time you show up. Love you!
