One faith

one-faithYou were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly.

You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all.

Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness.
- EPHESIANS 4:4-6 (MSG)

What does it mean for us to share “one faith”?

Here’s one view of what it isn’t and what it is:

The one faith is not a compendium of moral principles, a code of ethics, or a compilation of laws.

It is not a collection of letters, even though divinely authorized and produced by agency of the Spirit.

It is the firm conviction that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and that He was “put to death for our trespasses and raised for our justification” (Romans 4:25).

The very next statement is, “Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Upon no other basis of justification can such peace be secured.
- W. CARL KETCHERSIDE, The Twisted Scriptures

Do you find it simple or complicated to define “one faith”?

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it's sad that so many people get so caught up and stressed about the details of Christmas (myself, too if I'm not careful). All Jesus wants for His birthday is for us to love Him with all our hearts, minds, and strength, and to love others as we love ourselves. As we distract ourselves with cleaning, cooking, shopping, wrapping, and decorating, He would remind us as He reminded Martha to focus on the one thing that's truly necessary.

Can I keep coming back to your comment all month? :-) I need many reminders, frequent reminders, of this very thing, to love Him and love others as we love ourselves. Sounds like the recipe for a wonderful Christmas to me.

I find it comforting. God is in control. Nothing happens in this cosmos without His consent, and He already knows the story and the ending. Our job is to have that faith that gives us the rest from our fallen flesh. To be one with Him? There can't be anything physically that comes close to that. And to share the life and knowledge of that with our fellow brothers and sisters is being in His will. My two cents...

"Our joy is to have that faith" - amen, Floyd. And to share it with others. We just got a lot of truth from you for only two cents. :)

(And maybe--just maybe--my commenting problem is fixed now for good. Made a tweak that seems to have made a difference. We'll see.)

Since I know in whom I have believed in I find it exciting defining my faith. It gets easier and easier as I get older because daily I am reminded it is all about Him and not me. Good post.

This is affirming, Betty. The older I get, the simpler it seems to become, as I weed out the less important and try to get down to the central truths.
