In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:4
The life comes prepackaged.
It’s in him. And it gives out light.
But not only is life in him, he is life (John 14:6).
And not only does he shine light, he is light (John 8:12).
The more I learn about Jesus, the more I learn he is things, not just about things.
He not only speaks words, he is the word (John 1:1).
He not only shows the way, he is the way (John 14:6).
On and on and on.
So why is this so hard to grasp?
A few years back I attempted to memorize part of John 1. I succeeded so-so. But not as well as I wanted to. So I’m returning. Back to the beginning, asking the Word—who was with God and who is God—to shine his light in my darkest corners, bringing to life all that is me, in him, and him in me.
Strike a match and the dark disappears.
The match has been lit. It’s him. The whole package: word, life, light. All you could want, all you could need. It’s Jesus—then, now, forever. He is.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1
