Proverbs 21:31
“The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD.”
I love verses like that one. And like 1Samuel 14:6: “...for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.”
And like Judges 7:2: “...The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me.'”
And Psalm 44:6 “For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me.”
No matter how much we prepare, no matter how strong we think we are, it’s never enough. Our enemy is powerful. There’s always one more battle around the corner when this one’s over.
But the beauty of the gospel is—it doesn’t matter. It’s not about our strength anyway (Psalm 73:26); it’s about HIS strength. And there is none stronger! Psalm 77:13-14: “Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.”
God is so against our self-pride that he’s willing to let our circumstances get hopelessly bad at times so there will be no doubt who is really doing the saving when we pull through.
And if we're in the Lord, we always pull through. Even through death. That’s some serious power.
I can make as many little piddly preparations as I want to for the battles in my life, but ultimate victory is never at my own hand—it’s from the Lord. Just as he is with me in the preparations, he will be with me in the battle. And he is as equally with me, and for me, in the surprise attacks when *I* may feel I’ve had no time to prepare. He's always prepared for what's coming next for me.
The victory is from the Lord. And if I belong to the Lord, the victory is always mine—always through Him.
Psalm 20:7
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”

Only minutes later, I already have a P.S. :-)
From Mark Batterson's blog:
"This one revelation changed my life. It was during a prayer walk that I sensed the Spirit whisper to my spirit: Mark, it's not about what you can do for me. It's about what I have done for you.
That is such a simple truth. But it can change your life. And it has become one of my personal mantras."
