Proverbs 19:2
“Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.”
I’m watching UConn play Missouri right now in the Elite Eight. I like watching our own Alabama boy, sophomore Stanley Robinson, do well for UConn.
He almost didn’t have the chance. Last year he may have had the desire to play, but he lacked the pursuit of knowledge—such things as not showing up for all his classes and not turning in papers on time hurt him.
The last time I saw him play in person was only for about a minute. It was the state finals in the Alabama high school basketball tournament in Birmingham. Stanley started the game, but was pulled out for a technical. Jeff knew why—he had seen Stanley dunk during warm-ups, a no-no in high school basketball. It didn't take long before the officials were discussing it, and Stanley was gone. No second chances.
But at UConn, Coach Calhoun has given Robinson a second chance to work on his "knowledge" (he never lost his desire). He says Robinson is a very nice kid, and with two children of his own back in Alabama that he travels back and forth to see, I want to see him play well both in basketball and in life.
Another trip could be ahead for him very soon--a trip to the Final Four. If he can keep his desire and knowledge working together, I think he can make it. I hope he will.
