It wasn’t all about the presidency. Other important decisions also made last Tuesday, with mixed results, include:Marriage as the union of a man and a woman:
- Arizona (Prop 102)—Approved!
- Florida (Amdt 2)—Approved!
- California (Prop 8)—yes, California—Approved! (This reverses the California Supreme Court’s decision last May declaring same-sex marriage as a constitutionally-protected right.)
Little People:
- Colorado (Question 48)—Personhood Amendment, defining “person” as any human being from the moment of fertilization. Defeated.
- South Dakota (Initiative Measure 11)—Abortion Ban Initiative to prohibit all abortions except for rape, incest, or mother’s health. Defeated.
- California (Prop 4)—Require parental notification 48 hours prior to abortions for minors. Defeated.
- Michigan (Proposal 2)—Stem Cell Initiative to allow use of donated embryos for stem cell research. Approved.
Sick People:
- Washington (I-1000)—Legalize assisted suicides. Approved.
- Michigan (Proposal 1)—Allow critically ill patients to grow/use marijuana. Approved.
Hmm...kind of puts our Rainy Day Amendment into perspective for me...
