Be betrayed by choice?
Hosea 1:2, 3
...The LORD said to Hosea, "Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the LORD."
So he went and took Gomer...
Wham. The book of Hosea starts out tough from the first verses. What a crazy thing God asked! Who would voluntarily enter into a betrayal? (Okay, besides God himself...Jesus did agree to include Judas into His inner circle...)
If this situation were posed to me:
“Do you take this man, who is already cheating on you and will continue to cheat on you, to be your husband?”
I know my answer—"Um, no thank you. I’ll pass on that one!"
But Hosea didn’t pass. He took the challenge. He chose to give God honor by obeying His voice rather than choosing to protect his own reputation or his own emotions. That’s hard—to really put our lives in God’s hands and trust him.
What is God asking me to do? It’s not the same thing he asked Hosea, thankfully. But whatever it is, I can use Hosea as an example—just go do it. Whatever the cost, if it honors God, it's worth it.
Be betrayed by choice?
