Bible memory system—It works for us

Do you memorize Bible verses?

Here Jenna and I share about our favorite system for memorizing scriptures, Fighter Verses:

Fighter Verses equip you for your fight of faith. They are set up for learning one or two verses at a time, and are already printed and organized on individual cards in your choice of NIV or ESV.

You can learn more about the Fighter Verse program here from Hope in God or buy the binder with all 500 verses on cards here at Desiring God.

Everybody benefits when scripture is imprinted on hearts and minds.

Do you have a system that works for you?

Thanks, Lisa. I'm going to check out that memory verse program. It sounds good.

Oh, Lisa, it's so fun to hear your voice! I'll admit I've been reading you all wrong with the accent-less Midwestern voice within my head!

Fighter Verses sounds like it might be similar to the Navigators' Topical Memory System (TMS). I used the TMS when I was in the Navigators in college and found it very helpful. I chafed, though, at having someone else pick out the verses for me. Currently, I'm not using any system at all (and, truth be told, I'm not keeping up on memorization very well-I'm still reviewing the old stuff but I haven't added any new verses for quite a while.)

I had a feeling the accent thing would come up, even though I hear no accent at all in my voice. ha.

I have heard of the TMS but never checked it out. I should look into it for when (if!) I ever finish up the Fighter Verses. It will be harder to do once Jenna no longer does them with me. It’s been nice having a partner.

This is a cool idea, Lisa. I need all the help I can get, as this week was my first attempt ever at memorizing Scripture.

And I have to say, as a side note, I love hearing your melodious voice. And that accent -- yes, I had no idea!! Of course I always assumed you sounded just like me! :)

Yeah, well, I’m a little southern. Wouldn’t it be cool to hear all the bloggers’ voices as we read their writings? I’m sure that’ll happen one day in techno world.

I love John 14:1 that you chose to memorize. Being a worrier from way back myself, I’ve had to memorize that one, too. But God is working on me with it all. I love what you said:

"I wonder if I am trying to master these verses, rather than let them master me."

We all need to wonder that…good food for thought.

thanks for your comment on my post today...i used the program ann suggested that does the first letter of each word for Psalms 37 and began it at the doctor's office today:) then saw if i remembered Romans 8 on the way home--pretty good, but the second half was a little shaky;) i love the whole "fighter verses" idea--i'm sure my hubby will love it too! thanks!!
