What’s on your nightstand? - October

What's on Your Nightstand at _5 minutes for Books_ My experimental book-reading philosophy for the Fall into Reading challenge — only 2 books at a time — has been a nice change of pace.

  • Less decisions about which book to pick up
  • Start to finish each book much quicker
  • More focused due to fewer topics
  • Less cluttered nightstand (nice!)

For now anyway.
It’s hard not to crack open a new book before I finish two, but I’m resisting. Even though a few are really singing to me from my bookshelf.

However, I exempt “reading group” books from my experiment. They’re only one chapter (or less) per week. So they don’t count. (I can make up my own rules as I go, right?)

What a rich-looking reading list! Food for mind and soul.

I read Sacred Pathways earlier this year and really liked it. None of the others are familiar to me.

Wow- "only" 2 at a time? One at a time is all I can keep straight; go you! You have a really interesting looking list; the online book groups sound intriguing as well ;)

I hear you about it being hard not to crack open books! ;)

I want to read Just Do Something. My brother read it and pushed it in my general direction, declaring it's awesomeness. I hope to get to that one at some point.

I recently read Spiritual Mothering and loved it. Thought it was fantastic!

Love your list! Thanks for linking up and sharing what you're up to!

Deep unto Deep-The Journey of His Embrace
by Dana Candler. Oh so challenging.
And for light, relaxing, bedtime reading, the Mitford series by Jan Karon. I've read them so many times they are falling apart.

Amazingly enough... nothing right now.

I read "Come to the Table" several years ago. Need to reread it. I remember I liked a lot of the things he had to say, especially about it being an inclusive event, rather than exclusive. Where we currently attend, it is stated every week before communion that it's "only for believers." I don't get it. If they're worried about the verse that says not to eat/drink unworthily, if a person isn't a believer, does it make them even less saved than they were before they took communion??

I agree with Janet. This looks like a very "rich" list. I am sure you will be challenged and feed by the books on your list!

"Just Do Something" is fantastic. I read in some months ago and keep meaning to do a review of it. It should be handed out to a Christian early on in their walk.

I think I'll borrow Redemption Accomplished...from my brother in law. I've been meaning to read it for a long time and this may be the motivation for me to do it.

You've got an interesting list there.
