“Heavenly Sunlight”—Then Sings My Soul Saturday

Then Sings My Soul Saturday 5. Worshiping the Father with my father and our extended family

I just KNEW that God had something up his sleeve today. This one will finish off my “Friday’s Fave Five” list that I started earlier today.

There are still two hours left to go before this Friday is over, so I can’t say for sure that God is finished with me. But here’s his latest work during the last 2 ½ hours.

My sisters, brother-in-law, and I were sitting with my dad in his bedroom, trying to keep him calmed down before his next dose of medicine. My youngest sister read Psalm 150 aloud to him. Then Psalm 34, Psalm 27, Psalm 23, and John 14 (four of my favorites). Daddy did get quiet and listened to her voice.

Then we decided we’d sing. We four sang Jesus Loves Me. Then added a few hymns. Our aunt joined the room, then a niece, an uncle, my kids and husband, etc. Pretty soon, the whole room was filled with all of us singing praises to God.

Daddy can no longer sing aloud, and we’re not even sure what he’s thinking at this point, but we felt he was comforted by the old-time hymns that he used to lead at our country church growing up.

And my mother couldn’t stop smiling as she listened to the singing.

Me?
I’d sing. And cry. And sing again
.
Memories of the past; joy and sorrow in the present; hope for the future.

Heavenly Sunlight is one of the songs we sung tonight. It was not near as jazzy as this version below, but I enjoy this one, too.

Heavenly Sunlight
Lyrics

Vs 1
Walking in sunlight all of my journey,
Over the mountains, through the deep vale;
Jesus has said, I’ll never forsake thee—
Promise divine that never can fail.

CHORUS:
Heavenly sunlight! Heavenly sunlight!
Flooding my soul with glory divine;
Hallelujah! I am rejoicing,
Singing His praises, Jesus is mine!

Vs 2
Shadows around me, shadows above me
Never conceal my Savior and Guide;
He is the light, in Him is no darkness,
Ever I’m walking close to His side.

Vs 3
In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing,
Pressing my way to mansions above;
Singing His praises, gladly I’m walking,
Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love.

you ever have the chance to sing the "jazzy" version live? if not, i hope you do, make the effort next time you hear of something going on with the folks over at southside in rogersville, it's even better in 3D than thru computer speakers

G, thanks for clueing me in that this is "our" Southside--I wasn't sure. I have not heard them sing that song. We heard them in Nashville a year ago, and I bought a CD. I'll have to travel to Rogersville to catch them in person again.

Used to sing Heavenly Sunlight out of the red hymnal in our little church growing up...saying a prayer for you again today.

This is an uplifting song to sing. You're brave. I'm not sure I could even croak if I were in a situation like yours right now. But I love picturing your family - huddled and keeping each other strong and comforted. Faith is such a beautiful thing to have in life.

I love the old time songs of praise. What a blessing that you sang to your dad at this time. When my prayer partner's mom was dying we sat by her side and sang her favorite hymns too. She seemed to rest easier even though she couldn't open her eyes.

Love you,
Debbie
