Finished from October’s list:
Come to the Table ★★★☆☆
Very good insights on revisioning our practice of the Lord’s Supper within the church.
Kabul24 ★★★★☆
A great true story about Christians taken hostage in Afghanistan in 2001.
Just Do Something ★★★★★
Short but great. Just make a decision already!
Continuing book clubs:
1. Spiritual Mothering
Inspiration to encourage younger and older women to enter mentoring relationships with each other.
2. Charity and Its Fruits
This one is digging deep into what it means to love from 1 Corinthians 13.
3. Redemption Accomplished and Applied
A meaty book about Christ’s work of redemption and its application. Those of us reading along with Tim Challies give it a thumbs-up, even though it requires slow reading to grasp.
Began this month:
4. Acedia & Me
by Kathleen Norris
This one slipped in. It’s been on my TBR list for months, so when I saw it staring me down in the library 2 weeks ago, I didn’t resist. I loved Norris’ artful prose in The Quotidian Mysteries, and she’s not disappointing me here.
5. Recalling the Hope of Glory
by Allen P. Ross
I’ll be with this long one awhile. Beginning with Genesis, Ross is working through the Bible, pointing out all the ways people worshiped God. Very enlightening so far. We’re up to Moses.
Next in line:
6. Sacred Pathways
by Gary Thomas
Jenna is still reading it so I’ll wait my turn. She likes it; I’m sure I will, too, because Thomas’ other Sacred books have taught me much about being transformed into the image of Christ in everyday life.
7. Primal
by Mark Batterson
I benefited from reading Batterson’s In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, so I’m anticipating this will also be worth the read, about getting down to the nitty gritty of living out the Great Commandment—loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
On the 4th Tuesday of each month, Jennifer at 5 Minutes for Books asks, “What’s on your nightstand?”
So, what’s on yours?

Kabul24 sounds fascinating ... and I love the idea behind Just do Something! Lots of good ideas here; thank you!
I love Gary Thomas, too!
Sounds like you've read quite a few good ones1
On my nightstand?
Deep unto Deep - The Journey of His Embrace
by Dana Candler.
The Normal Christian Life-by Watchman Nee
And, I am once again making my yearly trek through the joyful Mitford books by Jan Karon. They are just so feel-good and heartwarming.
And always with me, my Amplified Bible.
Thanks Lisa!
Another friend highly recommended Kabul24, too.
You've got a great list there. Enjoy your holiday reading!
Just Do Something. Thanks for the reminder (which I apparently need quite frequently, ironically)!
Sacred Pathways is the only one I've read by Gary Thomas, and I really liked it. It's one of those books that has returned to my thoughts often.
Kabul24 sounds interesting. I'm going to keep my eye out for it!
Maybe I should read Just Do Something as my husband is always telling me to make a decision already!
