Is there praise in your prayer?

prayer_list What’s on your prayer list?

Let me guess:

  • requests for healings
  • wisdom for those making decisions
  • comfort for the bereaved
  • safety for travelers
  • salvation for lost loved ones

All good things. All things that should be on a prayer list. God cares about those things and wants us to talk to him about them.

But that’s not all. He deserves more. And there should be much, much more.

My cousin-in-law Julie received some sad family news this week. But this is what she wrote as her Facebook status:

facebook_status_updateAs soon as I read it, I knew I wanted to remember it. To live it. You, too?

How often do you remember to praise Him in your prayers?

This is very convicting as my prayer list is usually much longer. I so often forget to praise Him, especially just for who He is.

Being outside in God's creation, especially during fall, reminds me to praise Him in prayer. I can't help but to be awed and overwhelmed by His beauty all around me.

Lisa -- I want to thank you so much for your comforting words and presence these last few weeks. I know you know the road of grief. I'm so grateful for you!

I may want to borrow your sister's status. Amazing. And you are so right!

Michelle,
It’s neat how God puts people in our lives at just the season we need the very thing they have to give and vice-versa. Sorry we’re sharing similar losses in this season, but glad that we have Him on this common ground together.

Actually, I find it easier to praise than to ask for things. I just sort of expect Him to know. Now that's not really biblical, because he does want us to ask... so I try to remember to petition Him too.

I most feel like praising when I've taken some time for in-depth study. I'm often in awe of the big picture and His BIG plans for redemption.

Good post!
