What do you know of Holy?

If you think you have God figured out, think again.

You never can. He’s God.

But He doesn’t want that to hinder you from inching closer and closer all the time. The Holiness of God by R. C. SproulHere’s one avenue: Tim Challies is gearing up for a new round of Reading Classics Together. The book is The Holiness of God by R. C. Sproul.

If you’d like to participate, read the first chapter by October 14. Then meet back at Challies.com each week to share what you’ve learned and hear what others are learning.

Discovering more of God’s awesome holiness can only be a positive thing.

This song by Addison Road reminds me of how little I understand of God’s holiness, yet how profoundly I need to worship Him because of it.

LYRICS

I made You promises a thousand times
I tried to hear from Heaven
But I talked the whole time
I think I made You too small I never feared You at all, No
If You touched my face would I know You?
Looked into my eyes could I behold You?

(CHORUS)
What do I know of You who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood but the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

I guess I thought that I had figured You out
I knew all the stories and I learned to talk about
How You were mighty to save
But those were only empty words on a page
Then I caught a glimpse of who You might be
The slightest hint of You brought me down to my knees

(CHORUS)

(CHORUS 2)
What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame?
And a God who gave life its name?
What do I know of Holy?
Of the One who the angels praise?
All creation knows Your name
On earth and heaven above
What do I know of this love?

(CHORUS)

I have this book on my shelf and I've already read it. However, it's one I could easily reread. I will check out the website you mentioned. I love the Addison Road song.

Blessings and love to you Lisa,
Debbie

This song reminds me how often we try to fit God in a box.
He is so much more than we can imagine.

Powerful words. I think we all at one time or another, under estimate his power.
