Relaxing things – Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five at Living to Tell the StoryYesterday I took the day off from ordinary things. Everybody was gone; all was quiet.

So today I dedicate my Friday’s Fave Five to the relaxing things that I soaked up yesterday, and to remind myself to notice them more every day.

1. Sound of running water
With our windows open this week, I can hear our bubbly miniature waterfall headed downstream. Such a soothing sound. waterfall sound

2. The comforter on my bed
Puffy and soft and cozy. Definitely a sweet and dreamy creature comfort to lay underneath a pillowy layer of goose down. goose down comforter

3. Moving trees
Do you ever watch trees? They’re never really still. They mesmerize me by their constant movements, sometimes barely perceptible, sometimes swaying big when the wind is up. wind in the trees 4. A broken clock
It’s been 5:26 all week. And, let’s say, that’s 5:26 A.M. That means I still have the whole day in front of me, with no clock to watch. I like it. my broken clock

5. The Psalms
I’m in the book of Acts for my daily Bible reading lately, and in Ezekiel for my Wednesday night study, so I sneak back into Psalms to get my fix of God-exhilarations and passionate poetry and sensitive soul-stirrings. I’m very thankful they are part of our Bible! Psalm 104

Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD my God, you are very great!
You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
covering yourself with light as with a garment,
stretching out the heavens like a tent.
Psalm 104:1-2

I think I am going to be leading a bible study in the near future...have any ideas for me? Have a nice weekend! I love your 5...makes me take a sigh!

=D I LOVE this post. It makes me FEEL relaxed somehow. Or maybe it's that I'm still tired and wanted to stay in bed, so the view of a fluffy comforter is lulling me back to sleep! ;)

Beth,
One of my all-time favorite Bible studies was "Becoming a Woman of Excellence" by Cynthia Heald. It really called me higher in my everyday life.

I'd love to do a study in person with "The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment" (see sidebar) because it was SUCH a challenging book about being contented where God has you.

My sister is doing a study with her church on Max Lucado's "Fearless" and it's going well. It has a study guide in the back (I always like study guides). I read the book a month or so ago and found it useful.

One more suggestion you might want to look into is "Spiritual Mothering." I'm doing it on-line right now with Joanne at The Simple Wife, and I think it would make a great "real" study as well, especially if you have women of different ages in the group you'll be leading.

Blessings on whatever you choose!

I know how soothing the sound of running water is:) I once spent a night at a national park with a real waterfall just a stone's throw beside the window. I love the wonderful feel I get looking at that old, broken clock :) Glad you mentioned Bible reading this week. We had this subject called Biblical Literature years ago in school and that was the only time I ever enjoyed reading the Bible. Wonderful faves!

What a great post idea....relaxing things! I also loving those moving, blowing trees. I agree it mesmerizes me also. We have a woods behind my house so I love watching a storm blow in.
Psalm 104 is a fav. :)

Great list! Funny how watching the tress can be so relaxing. I should read in the Psalms every day, for the reasons you mentioned.

I am sooooooooo NOT ready to be leading studies yet - but I sure do enjoy attending them and doing them! I do plan to lead in the future... but I need a LOT more knowledge first!

My Monday night group is studying Mark right now - but before him, we did Judges -- OH what a hard study that was! Especially when we got to Samson! I spent a lot of time reaching back to Psalms during that one! You can only do so much HARD stuff before you have to go for the comfort!

I do NOTICE the tree movement all the time - especially when I'm at my computer - it sits right in front of my front window - which looks out on a LOT of trees! But my favorite is when the wind is really riled up! I am such an "extreme weather" person!

Hope you have another great week!

I loved your favorites, especially the duvets, leaves, rustling, creeks babbling...and you had such a wonderful verse at the end. Fantastic.

Oh I love listening to running water. So relaxing. If that was in my part of the world today, though, it would be frozen! LOL.

A down comforter sounds so wonderfully comfortable!

I love your fives. I just put my puffy comforter on my bed also. My daily bible reading schedule always includes the Psalms. I love them also. And, I love Cynthia Heald.

What is it about water? Brooks, waves, ripples, waterfalls - so peaceful to listen to and to watch. It's my favourite way to relax. Maybe I need one of those fake waterfall things for inside the house in the winter :)

A cozy bed - very relaxing!

I agree with you on the Psalms - they fit every mood and give us words when we can't find any.

Happy Weekend!

cool list, but the water pic keeps throwing me, i thought it was a huge spider that had been smashed, i kinda see branches and leaves in a stream because that's what the words tell me to look for, but an icky spider haunts me now
