Isaiah 64 – Memory Monday

More Memory MondayIt’s Memory Monday (see more verses at “The Simple Wife”).

Last week:

From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.
ISAIAH 64:4

Finally. A memory verse that comes easily. Maybe because this is quoted so frequently from Paul via 1 Corinthians 2:9 (although the wording is a little different).

It is a quite fantastic thought. But true—who can ever visualize what God will do? He certainly surpasses my imagination.

I’m also working on David’s psalm of thanks in 1 Chronicles 16:7-36. He ordained that it be sung after the Ark of the Covenant was brought back home to Jerusalem. It’s a timeless reminder of who God is, and it’s worth committing to memory.

I typically memorize in ESV, but for verses 8-10 I’m switching to NIV. I have no choice.

Here’s why: If you’re an Acappella fan from way back when like I am, you can’t hear these verses without also hearing this song (lyrics below) in NIV.

7 Then on that day David first appointed that thanksgiving be given sung to the LORD by Asaph and his brothers.
8 Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what he has done.
9 Sing to him, sing praise to him, tell of all his wonderful acts!
1 CHRONICLES 16:7-9 (ESV/NIV)

THIS WEEK:
Ah, the Fighter Verse is easy again. Well, to memorize. NOT to do!

My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
PROVERBS 1:10

The 3 chapter verses from 1 Chronicles 16 aren’t so easy, only because I have so many different songs streaming through my head to mix up the wording:

10  Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
11  Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!
12  Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles and the judgments he uttered,

1 CHRONICLES 16:10-12

Make known among the nations what he has done
Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name
Make known among the nations what he has done

Chorus:
Sing to him sing praise to him
Tell of all his wonderful acts
Glory in his holy name
Glory in his holy name
Glory in his name
Glory in his name

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice
Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice

Thanks for stopping by and reading my Memory Monday post. Rest is just something I think the Lord has really been trying to teach me about - resting/abiding in Him and now physical rest. Well, I am doing my best to listen.

Hope you have a great week!

Hmm...for those who wait on him. That's a recurring theme that I've explored here and there and see an in-depth study in my future on! The idea of active waiting on the LORD is so intriguing!

When we wait, God acts! And just maybe God waits while we plunge ahead to act.
