No fuel for the fire (Day 26, Proverbs)

Proverbs 26:20
“For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.”

I’ve been slowly working through “The Love Dare” book as a gift to my marriage. It’s taking a lot longer than 40 days, but I’m hoping that’s to our advantage—stretch it out even longer.

Yesterday’s challenge was a tough one. Take full responsibility yourself. No blaming others.

It never takes long for an opportunity to practice that one.

I found myself making excuses yesterday afternoon to my husband about why I didn’t answer the phone earlier when someone had called. Granted, they were good excuses, and I could have sold them handily, until I remembered The Love Dare challenge.

My excuses were fuel for a fire that didn’t need burning.

So I took it all back. Instead of justifying myself, I took the fall. I admitted I was wrong to delay the inevitable phone conversation.

And that was the end of it. No smoke, no flames, no fire.

Owning up to our sins is a great fire-fighting skill.
