Beating the crowd

20:13 "And behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel and said, 'Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude
[noise, tumult, crowd]? Behold [see], I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am the LORD [Yahweh].'"

God sent an inspired messager specifically to tell King Ahab to look around. He was to observe the mighty armies of Ben-Hadad, king of Syria, and realize how hopeless the battle would be with his own lesser forces. So any victory ahead that Ahab received would be all the more spectacular—only God could pull it off.

When I look around at the noise and tumult in my days, I, too, need to see the hopelessness of triumph from my own strength. Then when victory comes (in the form of peace within the noise, or occasionally crushing the problem altogether), there will be no doubt that God is LORD!
