“Your Love Is Strong”—Then Sings My Soul Saturday

I first heard this song at Stream Franklin at the end of January. It touched a deep place in me.
Heavenly Father, you always amaze me
Let your kingdom come in my world and in my life

I continued to listen to it over and over the next two weeks as I drove back and forth to my dad’s house as he was dying.
The kingdom of the heavens is now advancing
Invade my heart, invade this broken town

And then I listened to it over and over as I drove back and forth to care for my mom afterwards.
Give us today our daily bread, forgive us weary sinners
Keep us far from our vices and deliver us from these prisons

The richness of the lyrics continue to assure me now of God’s daily care and strong love. They retell the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-15), of promises from his sermon on the mount (Matthew 6:26-32), of parables (Matthew 13:44), and of his love in the Psalms (Psalm 62:11-12, NIV).
God knows what I need; You know what I need
Two things you told me, that you are strong and you love me

Jon Foreman of Switchfoot wrote this song for his solo project Spring. Another version is currently out by the Robbie Seay Band.

But my favorite version by far is the one I heard first by Hallal.
Listen to a clip here at #10

And listen to Jon Foreman sing the whole song here:

LYRICS

Heavenly Father, you always amaze me
Let your kingdom come in my world and in my life
Give me the food I need to live through the day
And forgive me as I forgive the people who rob me

Lead me far from temptation
Deliver me from the evil one

I look out the window, the birds are composing
Not a note is out of tune or out of place
I walk to the meadow and stare at the flowers
Better dressed than any girl on her wedding day

So why should I worry? Why do I freak out?
God knows what I need; You know what I need

CHORUS:
Your love is, your love is, your love is strong
Your love is, your love is, your love is strong
Your love is, your love is, your love is strong

The kingdom of the heavens is now advancing
Invade my heart, invade this broken town
The kingdom of the heavens is buried treasure
Which you sell yourself to buy the one you found

Two things you told me
That you are strong and you love me
Yes, you love me

CHORUS

Our God in heaven hallowed by thy name above all names
Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it in heaven
Give us today our daily bread forgive us weary sinners
Keep us far from our vices and deliver us from these prisons

And what site do you use to put the song on your blog when there's no video?

Thanks, all, for the blessings and sweet words. Glad you like the song, too.

Linda,
Actually the above music is from a YouTube video. But I didn't want it to show because it's just one constant picture. So I changed the height of the embedded code to "25" so the play bar is all that shows.

What really gets me here is this:

"Where in today’s culture are people socialized to sing often, naturally, in groups?"

You know, I've heard so much talk about whether congregations will prefer traditional or contemporary, and so little about this issue that you raise here. Wow. Such an eye-opening thought here!

Lisa,

What a blessed way to look and pray the Lord's prayer as you joined through difficult seasons in your life. We all go through dry and parched seasons in life...when our outward focus seems so overwhelm but when we search and seek deeper, we see things we would not have normal seen in days of rejoicing and delight.

I thank God...that we can compose in our heart a prayer language in song using the very words He passed on to us.

With joy,

Gladwell
