“Empty Me” by Chris Sligh

I've been cheering for Chris Sligh since he first appeared on American Idol, Season 6, making it into the Top 10.

In 2008, he released the album Running Back To You, which included the hit single "Empty Me." I heard the song again this morning. It fits well with yesterday’s post, "The empty spaces." Thanks for the music, Chris.

LYRICS:

I've had just enough of the spotlight when it burns bright
To see how it gets in the blood
And I've tasted my share of the sweet life and the wild ride
And found a little is not quite enough
I know how I can stray
And how fast my heart could change

CHORUS:
Empty me of the selfishness inside
Every vain ambition and the poison of my pride
And any foolish thing my heart holds to
Lord empty me of me so I can be filled with you

I've had just enough of the quick buys of the best lies
To know how prodigals can be drawn away
I know how I can stray
And how fast my heart could change

Cause everything is a lesser thing
Compared to you, compared to you
Cause everything is a lesser thing
Compared to you. So I surrender all

It's one of my favorites, too. I looked up Chris' blog to find the backstory, but he didn't talk too much about its origin. He obviously loves the song, too, and is very hyped at the success it has had and how much it has meant to people.
